Tailor's bunion

A tailor’s bunion is the same as a bunion (hallux valgus) but on the outside of the foot effecting the 5th toe and joint. It was given this name as it was common in tailors who used to sit with crossed legs, thus pushing the toe into a deformed position.

This tends to be less common than hallux valgus but the treatments are similar. The conservative options of shoes, orthotics and protection all apply, but there is no evidence to support the use of night splints or specific exercises.

The operations are also much the same except the bone is pushed in the opposite direction.
